Rubix Building Solutions was setup as an independent supplier by Finbarr McCarthy in early 2019 and is not restricted when sourcing material.

Finbarr has been in the roofing industry for twenty years working in key roles with distributors and manufacturers.

Having completed a degree in Construction Management in 2018 and also completed the Building Energy Rating Course, Finbarr saw a sea change coming in the industry – a need to focus on natural products with as low an environmental impact as possible.

Sustainability is at the forefront of all current construction as we move to NZEB standards. We are all well aware of the changing climatic conditions and the need to future proof our buildings.

Our aim is to promote and supply products that offer efficient use, retention and recyclable properties. Our main area of expertise remains in the sourcing of roofing material with a focus on Clay and Natural Slate – both natural quarried resources, indeed these products have a long history of use in the Cork area with a rich history of natural slate quarries in west cork such as Benduff, Drinagh and Durrus along with the red clay of Ballinhassig – the noted red Ballinphellic brick seen so much in historical buildings of Cork and further.

These materials will long outlive a building and many examples still exist today. Our main supplier Edilians has invested heavily in future proofing there products and systems to include integrated PV Systems and engineered product solutions that reduce waste, have minimal impact and are all fully recyclable.

A roof can equate to less than 5% of the build cost but 70% of the look. As we move to a greener future, a sustainable and reusable focus now means products such as Clay Tile and Quarry Slate are chosen over single use products with short lifespans that have no residual value.
